Too old to change, đź‘Ž > đź–•, and Imminent AI

Olá!
Coming at you today on 1 of our 30 days a year without sunshine in Lisbon…

Too old to change.

My old apple wired keyboard finally kicked the bucket (RIP) after about 6 years, so it was time to upgrade.

I order this Logitech mac wireless one that I thought would be similar and had great reviews, but when I hooked it up I realized I kept hitting “\” instead of “return”.

Little did I know, there are multiple versions of the same english keyboard.
There’s ANSI (left) and ISO (right).

Despite being someone who is always open to change and who sees themself as a lifelong learner, I decided this wasn’t a battle I was going to fight.

I’m chalking it up to having a 2mo old and turning 40 this month.

ANSI vs ISO

Idea:
👎️ > đź–•

This isn’t mine, but it was handed down to me and now I’m handing it down to you.

I was picking up Olivia’s friend (no baby on board) from the airport and, unsurprisingly, had a run-in with a poor driver.

In this case, somebody was trying to skip a merge situation.

Maybe it’s from the 2mo old/lack of sleep, but I gave the guy the finger.

I’m not proud of it…

So I told the friend sorry for losing my cool and she gave me this piece of gold…

Just giving other people a thumbs down.

I instantly fell in love with this idea, and have already deployed it once.

So next time you feel the urge to to đź–•, give someone the đź‘Ž.

Thought:

AI and Jobs

relevant South Park reference

I saw something on LinkedIn the other day: “business owners are figuring out how to replace $80K employees with $600/mo AI tools and services.

It sounds extreme, but it’s already beginning to happen.

It’s not like people get called to HR and told “You’re fired, and we hired AI”

Instead, companies do layoffs, restructure, and then just… don’t rehire.

The job titles don’t vanish, but the the number of people with that title does.

Fewer people doing more with AI.

The companies that lean into this will outcompete the ones that don’t.
The margins will force the change. Adapt or downsize.

And this isn’t some distant future… It’s happening in single-digit years, not decades.

See ya next month!
